We are currently talking to the promoters of Newcastle showground re running there this year. The subject of wings and how the cars are easier to be seen and look better came up. Would we be prepaired to run with wings? Any comments?

Do the NSW quarter midgets normally run with wings ? Kinda silly to change just for 1 track, plus i reckon they look better without them.

To answer your question Wilkinson.Quarter midgets in NSW have only run without wings for the last couple of seasons. The wings were originally introduced because the cars dissapeared from view of the grandstand at Gosford Speedway our home track for many years. The decision to remove the wings was farely controversial at the time.and done mainly to compromise with the other states to allow a uniform set of rules Australia wide.I cant agree with you on the looks thing i personally much prefer the look of the car with wings. I would be happy to run wings at selected NSW meetings ie Newcastle & Gosford if we are accepted at those tracks for this season.

Quarter midgets are suppose to be a smaller version of a speedcar , I don't see speedcars running wings, plus they look much better without them

As long as they dont mistake them for a junior quarter midget id be happy That only happens to me Peter, because I'm so slow... The side panels(wings) are so sponsors get a bit of exposure as you cant see the cars over the fence. No Sponsor = No money = No racing. If we did go back to them for the 2 tracks, will they be compulsary ?

when i got into racing the WINGS were one of the atractions i liked about the quarter midgets and that they stood out more on the track for the spectators view and that a lot of people that saw my cars said they looked great and that i also think it did help when the cars went over and I HAVE RACED THESE QUARTER MIDGETS WITH THEM nothing like formula 5oos as you can see with the photos

How on earth would an old bloke like me get in and out of a quarter with a wing? Leave em off or there may be a case for the anti discrimination board. I dont actually have an opinion one way or the other. Pity I turfed my old wing out.

I have talked to a few people over here about them but was told the 1/4 scale speed car story. I personally like the wings and would like to run one over here but the idea wasn't a very popular one. I haven't had anybody that I have talked to say that the Idea was a good one. The majority of people that i have discussed the idea with over here thought we should leave them as they are, Oh well.

Quarters with wings .. kinda looks and reminds me of the new micro sprint group starting up . Personally i bought a quarter because it reminds me of a speedcar . I understand from a safety aspect that some people want the extra security but the division is called quarter midgets and i have yet to see a midget race with a wing.

Sorry i haven't been around for a while. The last time this was discussed i could not decide whether we should race with or without the wings, however if wings will enable us to race at Newcastle i think it would be worth having a wing for just those races held at Newcastle as it is easily added and removed with only 4 bolts.

If Newcastle or Gosford accept you running there why cant you let drivers have which way they like does it really matter if some run with wings & some without. The spectators will be able to see both ways & you will probably get feed back on what people think looks better.I agree to both ways about the speedcars & also about the wings looking good. John likes the wings but also said that speedcars did run with wings a few years back in NSW. Judy Salmon

Other than looking good what purpose would they serve , they do not add to the stability of the car they nether have the speed or the power to get any benefit from adding wings , just more expense and more to fix , this is my opinion as the team mechanic (Dad) who pays the bills , but the boys did like them .
