when i was 16 i had a dream that i was watching little sprint cars racing around the bases on a baseball diamond......man i wished i was racing with 'em. I never knew what a quarter midget was. about 6 months ago i started getting the urge to build some kind of sprint car looking go karts for me and all my old bmx/ moto cross friends from 20+ years ago. eventually i found outlaw karts online, but i wanted suspension like a tq midget or a kids qm. I was going to build qm's for adults! after some snooping around on the net i discovered nsw quarter midget association! you guys are as big of kids as i am! i love it! if you don't mind too much i would like to ask for some info and advice about qm's and getting a club off the ground. gotta go it's 3:30 here in iowa and i'm going home in a little town named clarence about 2 and a half hours away from knoxville. sorry for the rambling but i am really fired up about racing qm's with my friends and teaching the next generation of kids to enjoy the natural high of racing and maybe learn a bit myself!

Hi there, If you are after any of the sizes of the cars over here in NSW there is what we go by when building the cars in the Rules & Regulations section of the home page of th web site.If you go to the Australian Quartermidget 125cc final draft book,it should give you somewhere to start from,Hope this helps you out.

Yes it has! Thank you! Tonight i'm going to Tipton Iowa (my old home town) to see Al Dlouhy (a frame legend around here for late models ,imca(your amca's i believe) and a setup guru). He's my brother-in law's (R.I.P.) older brother. he promotes and maintains the "Cedar County Raceway" we also jokingly refer to it as "Tipton International Speedway", it's a high banked clay quarter mile...440 meters. i'm proud to say that we've been blessed to host a few of you Aussies when the sprint invader series comes through once a year ( 370 cubic inch winged sprints) The stands are packed every time they come! This was the 3rd. annual showing that Al has got 'em for the fair. This year they also brought in micro sprints, the 600cc winged variety. The reaseon i'm going to see Al is that a week ago i gave him my Quarter Midget frame design "blue prints". He has 4 of the continious main outer perimeter tubes bent up for me (enough for 2 cars) and i am happy to say that they were designed to meet NSWQMA specs! (using your rule book as the law). The Dlouhy brothers Al and Larry have a fabrication shop in Andalusia Illinois. Al had their tube bending machine programmer/operator punch in the specs. Now it should be cheap and easier to get a good start building the sides! Most of the rest of the frame tubes in my designs are straight pieces to simplify the whole building process. I have been drawing and looking at your cars and also the other guys cars.... you know the wankers over at waqma. (just kidding!)for about 6 months. There are quite a few variations car to car and club to club. But it's very easy to see the main similarity though......a lot of personal pride and creative thinking in every one of them! They truely are works of art! My hat's off to all of you! The areas that i need help and advice in are things like: rear swingarm/ engine design dimensions. typical front axle dimensions and material. do you use a swingarm on one side and 2 rods on the other? does 2 swingarms cause binding? is it possible to get some photos of the frames and suspension without all the body work on or at least better views of them? what were the results of cullen bullen #2? I'm trying to learn the numbers and names so I can follow along. In the video for cullen bullen #2 you guys were realy torque'n on! p.s. sorry so wordy

Hey Darren thanks for the link! The videos are great! The pictures of your QM in various states of "undress" are exactly the kind of pictures I'm needing! I have to piece together sketches of what i think i see in pictures to make build plans from. I got a QM picture and measured the width of the rim in the pic. Then I scaled the measurement up to the size I thought the rim was in real life. After i had a scale factor I measured the entire QM dimensions in the picture and applied the scale to them to get the "real" measurements. Pretty pathetic i know i know...but it was pretty close! currently I'm putting in a wood burning stove in our one stall garage so i can feel my fingers and toes during the whole build process. We had a bit of an indian summer (warm spell) this weekend temps hit 60 deg.F....15.56 deg.C a tad warmer than Friday's 25 deg. F....-3.89 deg. C brisk air! all the racing seasons around here are well over. they'll start up again around april or may. I think Iowa has some of the widest ranges of temperatures between summer to winter. during summer we can hit 100+ deg. F ..... 37.78 deg. C actual temp. with a heat index reading of110+ deg. F ...43.33 deg. C . During winter we can hit -0 deg. F ... -17.78 deg. C or below actualy temp. with wind chill temps of -50 deg. F... -45.56 deg. C ! The snot in your literally freezes instantly when you go outside! when or if your car starts the tires have frozen and you get a rough ride until the tire heats up it's flat spots and tire gets round again. Kinda makes your testes want to crawl up your backside and hibernate for the winter! Talk about shrinkage factor! That's why I'm working on the stove first and the QM second! In the mean time Al's working on making a right side "swing arm" like the one you have in the older car pics. From the land of corn and corn did i mention corn? Lightnin' Rod 77

Noticed you are still running the Draft rules, these have been updated slightly. Example: the width of the car is now allowed to 1400mm and rims to allow race rubber(eg American Racers or Hoosiers). Send me an email if you are interested in an updated copy
